Impact of Digital Technology on Islamic Learning in Contemporary Nigerian Muslim Societies: An Ethical Exploration

Dr AbdulGafar Olawale Fahm

Abstract

The study would adopt an interdisciplinary approach to investigate the impact of digital technology on Islamic learning in contemporary Nigerian Muslim societies, aiming to provide an ethical exploration of this evolving educational landscape. Falling within the larger project Toward an Islamic Cultural Archive (ICA): Building a Collaborative Database of Islamic Learning in Africa, the study is situated under RS Learning. As shall be demonstrated in the study, the impact of digital technology on Islamic learning in contemporary Nigerian Muslim societies will be ethically explored, shedding light on its multifaceted effects. This contributes to the discourse on understanding multiple and interrelated processes of learning in Africa under RS Learning. More significantly, I argue that the impact of digital technology on Islamic learning in contemporary Nigerian Muslim societies necessitates a comprehensive ethical exploration to ensure harmonious integration with religious principles. While knowledge production was historically rooted in Islamic scholarship, the impact of digital technology on Islamic learning in contemporary Nigerian Muslim societies has raised complex ethical questions and transformations in the dissemination of religious knowledge. Moreover, the use of digital technology has enabled a transformative and ethical exploration of Islamic learning in contemporary Nigerian Muslim societies, fostering greater access and engagement with religious education.
